ICH show kicks off in Huayuan

The final of an intangible cultural heritage (ICH) show was held in Longtan Community, Longtan Town, Huayuan County on August 24.
30 teams competed for first, second and third places. Miao dance, monkey drum dance, Miao martial arts, costume shows, lion dance, dragon dance and other programs were staged in turns, showcasing the charm of intangible cultural heritage and receiving applause and cheers from on-site audience. In addition, the event was also live streamed on various online platforms, with over 230,000 persons watching the show.
In recent years, Huayuan County has established and improved effective protection mechanisms for ICH, and made efforts to create new formats integrating ICH with cultural and creative products, homestay inns, and festivals, promoting the upgrading of the cultural and tourism industry, and advancing the high-quality development of the county.
As the “Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art” and “China’s Chiyou Culture Research Base”, Huayuan County has the Ganqiu Festival, a world ICH project, 6 national ICH items, including ancient songs, Miao medicine, Miao drum dance, Miao embroidery, and Miao costumes. Besides, there are 13 provincial-level and 180 prefectural-level ICH projects, as well as 158 training centers engaged in ICH protection and utilization, ICH workshops, ICH demonstration bases, ICH enterprises, and ICH exhibition halls.
